Biometrics – The card-less entry system
Tired of bringing your ID when you come to work out?
No problem! Mason Recreation is excited to announce Biometric (card-less) access at all of its facilities. The registration procedure is simple and can take under 2 minutes at a customer service desk. This cutting edge technology takes a unique measurement of your right hand and ties that measurement to your account in our software. Once you get your hand “registered”, you can enter through designated check-in stations by merely typing in your G-number (or Mason Recreation Account Code) and placing your hand in the Biometric reader. Enjoy the convenience not having to keep track of your student ID or membership card and take advantage of faster check-in time. Call 703-993-3934 for details.
The 120,000 square foot Recreation and Athletic Complex (formerly the PE Building) boasts three gymnasiums, two racquetball courts, two squash courts, and a two story fitness gallery that spans over 15,000 square feet. The facility is home to Intramural Sports, Club Sports, three intercollegiate sports (tennis, volleyball, and wrestling), and ROTC, as well as classroom and offices for the School of Recreation, Health and Tourism.
The fitness gallery includes one level for cardiovascular machines and one level for weight training. The weight training area consists of selectorized machines and free weights. In addition, the fitness area has two multipurpose rooms that will house various exercise programs. For a minimal semester fee, Yoga and Pilates classes provide core work and relaxation techniques. Several Martial Arts programs (including Mixed Martial Arts, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and Krav Maga) are also available for a small sign up fee and provide an alternative to the traditional cardiovascular workout. The RAC also features a refreshment center offering post-workout nutritional shakes and other small grab and go items.
The facility features three gymnasiums, two on the first floor and one on the second floor. Linn gym features a hardwood playing surface for 2 basketball courts/3 volleyball courts. The newest venue, “RAC Gym” will be home to the George Mason men’s/women’s volleyball teams in addition to providing a competition venue for wrestling. RAC Gym is capable of accommodating seating for 1,550 and features 3 basketball courts, retractable bleachers, a state of the art sound system and a second story viewing area.
The second floor features 2 racquetball and squash courts which will also be available for wallyball. For information on reserving court times, please contact the Equipment Checkout desk at 703-993-5322. The third gymnasium can also be found on the second floor and features a multipurpose playing surface capable of accommodating 2 basketball/volleyball courts, 1 indoor futsal pitch or 4 badminton courts.
Looking to rent some camping gear for the weekend, or simply borrow a basketball for a quick game of pick-up? The Equipment Checkout desk is available during normal operating hours to offer a wide variety of equipment for members. A valid membership and photo ID is required at checkout.
Members will be able to take advantage of each of the gymnasiums as well as the numerous programs and services offered at the RAC. Memberships purchased at the RAC also include access to the Aquatic and Fitness Center and Skyline Fitness Center.
